I'm Matt Tallman (he/him), a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Portland Oregon, and the founder of Broader Path Therapy.
My background and clinical experience include supporting people and their loved ones through end-of-life care and hospice. I also provide inclusive secular support for people navigating religious trauma, coercive control, and involvement in high-control groups and relationships. Both areas of focus involve processing grief, shifting identity, and rebuilding an individually meaningful life.
Religious Trauma Support: Secular and LGBTQ+ Affirming
Support is available beyond just religious contexts. Help is open to anyone harmed by fear, coercive control, or conditional belonging in any high-control group or relationship. While this support is secular, it is not anti-spirituality. There is room for you to create the space you need to explore your own path to meaning, which may include faith, or none at all. If you've felt isolated in this experience, you don't have to face it alone. Survivors of high-control groups, relationships, and coercive control often need to feel truly understood. Both professional training and lived experience are brought to this vital work.
Individual Therapy for Anxiety and Depression
Evidence based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help you identify where you may be stuck. Support is provided for behavioral change that will assist in decreasing anxiety and depression.
End-of-Life Support
Compassionate therapy for individuals navigating end-of-life transitions. Assistance is available for individual family members and friends who are facing anticipatory grief. A safe, grounded, non-judgmental space is offered where complex emotions can be expressed and explored.
Grief Support
Grief is a natural human process that follows loss. Experienced support can help you carry the weight without being consumed. With compassionate therapy you can find a way forward that acknowledges loss while developing a path to peace and healing. Grief can feel like a heavy, uninvited journey, but you don't have to navigate it by yourself. There's room for you.
